Self care is an artform I must practice more frequently.
June 15, 2024
Exploring off the island I chose to bike late in the afternoon due to heat.
I slept in and set no alarm. Before I left the island I did some much needed self care. After my shower I did a face mask and my nails. It's nice to make time for myself and do what I want.
When you advocate and Activate it's hard to remember to put yourself first. This residency has allowed me to do that wholely and it's feels extraordinary.
Since I left late in the afternoon like 3ish I got to powwow for the last song. Luckily it's an indigenous arts festival too and the performances were still on all evening.
Sometimes you meet up with friends forrom decades ago and it's so sweet. other times you see each other and find out it's a first time at this powwow for both of you.
Finding good foods you can eat are always the bonus at these events. Traditional foods with wild meat.
I can't leave the powwow without strawberry drink! It's tradition and how fitting with strawberry moon during indigenous history month.
Found some supplies for the arts and more creating.Small world too, her sister works in my community. I bought mooses antler cuts and abalone shell beads.
One big alesson I am getting from this residency is to let go and live. My life is important especially when it comes to taking care of self first.
Take my time and stop to look and observe the small things.
Miigwech - thank you
I know I deserve to be cared for and the people around me helped to feel that for once. As a caretaker it is hard to remember.
Thank you all!
